Of course he still called Mr. Miles too.

We saw Dr. Rich today for the one year check-up and shots. He did awesome, and he is right on schedule developmentally. Here are his stats:

Height: 29 1/2 "
Weight: 21 lbs 2 oz

For his birthday, we opened gifts, and this weekend the boys will share a cake. With it just being the 4 of us, having 2 cakes seemed silly (and too much!) We'll have some friends over and let the messy eating happen! I will upload pics to Shutterfly very shortly. Mr. Miles thanks you all for the birthday wishes.

Look At Me Go

11 Months Old

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/R59_qngaD-I/AAAAAAAAATs/MAejen51xIg/s320/DSC00010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160984068126019554" />

Mr. Miles is babbling all the time. He celebrated his first Christmas, and was spoiled. Elijah helped him open his gifts, and show them to him. Miles is pretty content to let Elijah help him out with stuff, but he has his independent moments too. Right now, he is in a biting phase. You have to watch him when you're playing with him, so you can move out of the way. Sadly Elijah hasn't learned that, and he had a bite mark on his arm for a few days.

Miles still loves the camera, he is sporadic with his sleeping, waking up at least once a night. And his eyes seem to be changing from blue, to a blue-hazel mix.

All I Want For Christmas...

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/R1m16toCO-I/AAAAAAAAARk/DOdVs_mSlRE/s320/DSC00004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141340469904686050" />

is my two front teeth. The holidays are so much more fun with kids.

9 Months Old

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/R1AxtigchZI/AAAAAAAAARA/2p_4v64Q5i0/s320/DSC00005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138661833256502674" />
9 months old

Miles turned 9 months old last week, but I hadn't gotten around to taking his 9 month picture. Plus I wanted to wait until after his dr appt, which was on Tuesday. No shots, just his flu shot, which Elijah also got.

Here are the stats:
Height: 28 1/2 in
Weight: 19 lbs 5 oz

One of his top teeth has broken through. He is eating well, both his baby food and small bites of table food. He has been weaned, is now taking a bottle. I didn't realize that I would miss holding him so close to me, but I am happy to have that freedom. He is almost crawling. He sort of ooches forward by pushing his feet. I won't call it crawling until he does more than two ooches.

Best news of all, he's been sleeping really well. Hope I didn't jinx it by blogging about it.

I can hardly wait to celebrate Christmas with the little guy.

Rock & Roll

Miles rocks...

and rolls.

Meet & Greet

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/RzSBWYaLnVI/AAAAAAAAAQA/qE9rH9mbNYg/s320/DSC00008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130868096991206738" />
Miles & Elijah cuddle with Nana & Great Grandma Joyce

Miles (& Elijah) enjoyed a nice visit with Nana and met their Great Grandma Joyce for the first time. Miles was his ever-charming self, always willing to pose for pictures and dole out his famous smile. He surprised all of us by saying his first word, Mama. He can also say Dada.

He's already at 20 lbs, but we'll have official stats when he goes to his doctor appt in three weeks.

We've been on a roller coaster of sleepless nights, but he's slept through the night the last two nights. What's the magic formula? We don't know. But like a superstitious sports player, we don't want to change anything. He is still pretty mellow, but clearly his biggest interest is big brother Elijah. Miles is now rolling everywhere, and eating baby food regularly. His sleep habits need refinement, he can be sporadic with sleeping all night. But I can count on him to nap during the day.

His next appt isn't until next month, but we moved him into a bigger car seat, one that we can face forward once he turns one. His sleep is irregular, some nights a week he'll sleep through, other nights he will wake several times and need to be rocked back to sleep.

6 Months Old

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/RtbNfEEiQHI/AAAAAAAAAN4/N5qxIXu6WUo/s320/DSC00013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104493161223438450" />

I wanted to wait to post until after Miles had his 6 month checkup. It went very well. Dr. Steve said he looks great. He commented on how cute he is, and how he must just get kisses all day long. He got 4 shots, plus another dose of the rotovirus vaccine.

The Stats:
Weight: 17 lbs, 11oz
Height: 27 7/8 in

His weight is only the 50th percentile, but his height is in the 90th. So he's gonna be a tall boy. Dr. Steve says most kids double their height in their first year, and he's already grown 7 inches since he was born.

We'll be giving him a new cereal soon, as well as starting on yellow veggies.

Miles is such a sweetie, we're very blessed.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/RtbPPEEiQII/AAAAAAAAAOA/3Mi_Uc0vUt8/s320/DSC00020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104495085368787074" />

Miles Tidbits

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/Rr-xcqyqggI/AAAAAAAAAM8/Q02FuZPZ3tk/s320/DSC00001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5097988409287934466" />

We took Miles to the pool for the first time today. He seemed to like it. He didn't get cold like skinny baby Elijah did.

Tonight we had our first successful cereal eating! Miles hated the taste of formula, so I mixed it with water and voila!

Evidently I didn't mention it before, but Miles has been sleeping great in his crib. A few months ago I asked Elijah if Miles could move into the crib, since he was too big for his bed. I wanted to blog about all the things he's done the last two weeks, but I've been sick. He can roll over from his back to front (though he doesn't like it). He's grabbing onto things well, like his toys. And we've been trying to get him to eat rice cereal (he's not crazy about it yet).

I will post more pictures of him in his album soon, just gimme a few days. He's such a pleasure to be around, he's so sweet. I was experiencing cramping all day, mostly from Dr. Mukul (sounds like McCool) had stripped my membranes. From 3am-4am, the cramping was very uncomfortable, so I got out the hot water bottle. At 3:55, I started feeling contractions. They were getting to be a little more intense than I wanted, and they were coming 5 minutes apart. They felt like the real deal (I remembered), so I told Geoff I'm calling the hospital. They told me come on in, and that Dr. Scott was there. I called Amy and she was ready to set up for Elijah. We packed up the car, packed up Elijah and headed to Amy's. The drop off went fine, and we booked it to the hospital. Once we arrived (around 5am), they offered me a wheelchair, but I didn't want to sit. I wanted to be able to lean against the walls to brace for contractions. We went up the service elevator and was met by our first nurse Andi (she rocks btw). She moves us right into a birthing room. Before we're even in the room, I let her know, oh yes, I'm gonna want an epidural. Once I get changed into a gown and hooked up to some monitors, we check to see where I'm at, 4cm. She's already called the anesthesiologist (I told you she rocked), and when he arrives (Chuck) we get going on the good stuff. Chuck is great. It's different to be so alert for the epidural, I missed the last one (it came when I was at 10cm with Elijah). Once I'm all drugged up, I feel great. Geoff says it's great to see Melissa, the cheery fun Melissa. Not the "I'm in pain" Melissa that was there the whole time with Elijah's birth.

At 7am, Dr. Scott came by and he broke my water. He lets me know he's off soon, but Dr. Mukul is on-call. Not much is going on, I'm contracting, but I don't feel it. Each pelvic check shows that I'm steady at 4 or 5cm. I tell Geoff he should go get some breakfast, I'm good to hang out. At 9:15am, Dr. Mukul comes by, and we check to see where things are at. I'm at 7cm now, and speculation begins as to how long before I hit 10cm. In my head, I'm thinking before 10am, but I don't want to say anything. Not to jinx it, or to look foolish. It must have been about 9:45, and I'm complaining to Geoff about this pain in my hip. It's making me pretty uncomfortable, enough to want to get a shot of relief from my epidural. I end up pushing the button twice during this time. (The button resembles a Jeopardy button, it makes me laugh.) Our nurse Gina comes in at 10am, and I let her know my hip is bugging me. She offers to check me, to see where I'm at. She tells me I'm complete, it's time to push. She calls for Dr. Mukul to head up to my room. This is by far the easiest part of labor for me. For some reason, my body just does it well. She keeps letting me know I'm doing great, and that we don't even need the doctor here. When Dr. Mukul finally shows up, he barely has time to put his scrubs on and Miles is out. He holds him up for me to see, and Miles looks right at me. I just started to cry. They grab a towel, Geoff cuts the cord, and they lay my new son on my chest.

It was a wonderful experience (I'm telling you the drugs are awesome!). I am so in love with Miles. Please don't ask about future children. Right now, I don't even want to think about it for 3 years. Seeing Elijah with his brother warms my heart. I never felt like our family was missing something, but now that Miles is here, our family feels right. It's going to be challenging, but I think we're going to be a-ok.

He's Here!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qMi0fpJVUOg/Rd-uKwBpcqI/AAAAAAAAAFE/HG-oOHvxabo/s320/47b7dc02b3127cce985488d69f6f00000037100EZM2zlmyZMQ.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5034934408137241250" />

Miles Iain Armstrong arrived Thursday, February 22 at 10:22am. I went to the doctor yesterday, and there was no change. I made an appointment for 41 weeks (just in case), at which point we'll do a non-stress test and AFI ultrasound (amniotic fluid index). If the baby isn't doing well, we'll deliver that day. If he's okay, we'll deliver a few days after that. Essentially, it's best for me & baby if we can have as natural a birth as possible.

All of you who read this know, I'm ready to get this kid out now. I'm pretty uncomfortable (constant pain in my hip), and anxious to meet the little guy. I wanted to meet with the doctor who is scheduled to be on call the week the baby is due. I really like her, I think I may keep her as my female doctor in the future. I went in and was sure to let them know I'm sick, and have been for a 6 days. So she made sure I wasn't suffering from anything too serious, and we are both hoping the baby doesn't arrive until after I recover from this. So it's just your run of the mill sickness. She did give me the okay to keep taking Sudafed, and she gave me a scrip for my indigestion.

My appt went well. My weight gain was like nil, my bp was 96/52. I asked to do a cervical check, and I'm effaced 50% and dilated 1 cm. Not that it means much. Though, I was effacing with Elijah at 38 weeks, and he arrived at week 39. Some women can be dilated for weeks before they deliver.

We visited the hospital last Thursday to do the tour. Elijah and Geoff saw the birthing room, before they left to go play. It's not exciting enough for Elijah. I wish the recovery room was as big as the birthing room, and had the cool glider chairs. But the recovery room has a room service menu. :) It's very likely I'll be in the hospital between 24-48 hours. Because they don't circumcise the baby until he is 24 hours old. But I will push to get home asap, even though Geoff thinks I should take advantage of the alone time in the hospital. Amy will stay with Elijah as long as we want, but Geoff and I don't want him to feel like he's not important to us. So Geoff will stay home with Elijah after the birth of the baby, and they'll come visit us. So, that's the plan.

My next appt isn't until February 8. Pending I don't go into labor before then, or something else come up, expect an update then. (Ashley, I will try to post a picture this week, once my face stops being all splotchy from my sickness)

What The Doctor Said

I saw a new doctor today, and of course I brought up the pain incident. Nothing exciting to report there. I did reschedule one of my appts, so I could see the doctor who is on call the week I am due.

I'm still having indigestion all the time, I'm getting very painful leg cramps at 4am every few days, and I'm exhausted. I wake up at 7am, and by 9:30-10am, I'm ready for sleep.

I'm in nesting mode. I rewashed all of Elijah's 0-3month old clothes in baby detergent. I want to have more things organized, but money and lack of energy are slowing me down.

As I mentioned on my blog, Cindy threw me a baby shower while I was in CA. The boys' godmother Cate made a quilt for #2. Cindy & her whole family chipped in and bought us the double stroller we registered for. It's a sit & stand. It has the baby up front, and then Elijah can either sit or stand in the back. We also got a Target gift card from Cate, a Snugli from Pat, a book and night light from Marci, and some money from my friend Donna. I'm so happy Dawn sent me baby gift thank you notes a few months ago. :)

I can hardly wait to see the baby's face. I'm nervous about the labor, despite having been through it before. We're set to do the hospital tour on the 25th. I think I want to make out a list of the stuff that will need to get packed for us and for Elijah on D-Day (delivery day).

My next appt is in 2 weeks.

30 1/2 Weeks

It's only 65 days until the due date. This boy sure kicks a lot. The funny thing about keeping mum on his sex and his name for so long, I almost never call him by it. So I'm practicing now. At least in the privacy of our home.

The next hospital tour is scheduled for January 25, so we'll be there that night. We decided against doing the lamaze refresher course, but I will dig out our books and look over them. My plan pretty much is to check in and then ask for the drugs. :) I don't need to be brave. With Elijah I was all the way to 10 before I got the good drugs, so I pretty much get the jist of it.

I spoke with the pediatrician office yesterday to ask about what we need to do to get baby #2 set up there. all I have to do is sign a release form saying the hospital can send his records to them. Then, as with Elijah, we'll have to bring him in 2 days after we get out of the hospital. Because University Hospital doesn't allow those doctors to come there. Don't ask.

So all is well. I'm healthy, the baby is healthy, and we wait.

Appointment

I had my appt yesterday, and everything is still going well. My bp was 85/60, which surprised even me, since I've been stressed lately, I thought for sure it would have been in the triple digits. The baby's growth and heart rate are spot on. I talked to Dr. Scott about what the rest of the appts will hold, and do I need to pre-register for the hospital. I don't need to register, and there is only one test left to do at 35 weeks, the Strep B test.

So I go back in a month, and then every two weeks until February. I cannot wait to meet this baby, and see their face. What will they look like? No biggie, just checking my blood pressure, weight and baby's heartbeat. All good, and everything is as it should be. I have my ultrasound next week, and I'm strongly leaning towards not revealing the sex of the baby until we send out our annual Christmas letter. :) Athena doesn't think I'll be able to hold back. If you didn't get a letter last year, and want to be on our Christmas letter list, please send me an email, I'd be happy to add you.

I scheduled my next two appointments, for October & November. My friend Kelly also spoke highly of him. He's very nice. We mostly talked, checked my weight and blood pressure and listened to the baby's heartbeat. I'm back there in four weeks. We did talk about where I would deliver, and unless something changes during the pregnancy, it will be at Fitzsimons. Sweet! The newer hospital. I hope this time around I can get some visitors, and that my stay won't be as long as it was last time.

That's all there is to report. I'm feeling good, I have some moments when I'm a little queasy, but that's it. Continue to keep us in your prayers.

Our Lips Were Sealed

Yes it's true, there were people who knew about the baby before others. We knew at 6 weeks, but the doctors don't like to see you until you are closer to 8-10 weeks along. So I had to wait 3 weeks for an ultrasound and confirmation. I didn't want to tell the world, but tell a few people dear to me in case I needed their support if something went wrong. I figure those who loved me would understand.

The big question we've been getting is "when do you find out the sex of the baby"? They usually do that around week 20. We haven't totally decided if we will find out the sex. Part of me wants to be surprised, and the planner part of me wants to know. :)

My next appt is in 4 weeks, and I'll be seeing a new doctor. Because my regular doctor office is not able to deliver at University Hospitals, I got a recommendation from them for a doctor at Fitzsimons. This will work out great (pending the dr is nice) because I'll be on campus for Geoff to go to the appts, or to watch Elijah. I hope to talk to him at that time about which hospital I'll delivery at. Either the same as the last one (on Ninth), or the new one (where we wanted to deliver before). The snag is still the same, Fitzsimons does not deal with high risk pregnancies. So if there were a BIG problem, they've shuffle us off to University on Ninth. That is also where the NICU is. So, we'll talk to the dr and see.

Please pray for a safe pregnancy, and good health for all of us.

Let's Do It Again!

Arriving February 16, 2007!
